Qatar’s Modern Beginnings

Discovering Arabian Deco

The exhibition takes visitors on an architectural journey through Qatar’s urban development following the discovery of oil, with emphasis on a remarkable period that emerged between the 1950s and 1960s, which the author refers to as “Arabian Deco.” Working directly with architect Ibrahim Jaidah, artist Nada Abbara created colored illustrations that contextualize significant gates and buildings within the Art Deco movement in Doha, offering a tangible connection to the architectural character of the era.
