Fool’s Year 2020
Fool’s Year 2020 is a calendar with illustrated narrative that resonates with the reality of 2020 in a humorous approach. The events of 2020, specifically the coronavirus pandemic, highlighted the use of humor as a coping mechanism.

Each month of the calendar is a scene of two satirist characters inspired by a Syrian T.V. show “Deea Dayaa”, going through the tragic occurrences of (coronavirus). Since Wednesdays are considered the fool’s day of the city of Homs, Syria; each Wednesday in the calendar is called Homs. The product has various layers of meanings that are intertwined, however, the core meaning that it represents one of the human instincts for survival, finding humor in Tragedy
Cultural Onion
This designed object was developed through an investigation of a sub-cultural phenomenon that takes place in the city of Homs, known as the capital of laughter in Syria. People of Homs are well-known for their sense of humor and Wednesdays are celebrated weekly as it is considered “fool’s day.”
