Friendship Benches

The Friendship bench is inspired by an NGO registered movement in Zimbabwe, with the core mission to improve mental wellbeing and enhance quality of life. The original concept of the friendship bench stems from the benches where elderly would sit and share their stories which helps alleviate mental health issues The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) and the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar (MOPH) have led the initiative to raise awareness about mental health and sports during one of the largest global events, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

As a commission by WISH institution, in collaboration with World Health Organization, and FIFA endorsement, these illustrative banners for the Friendship Benches were designed to represent each of the countries that participated in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. They were showcased and distributed around the 8 stadiums in Qatar. The artworks are illustrated in the colors of the different flags and embody the culture, landmarks, and architecture of each country; taken into consideration the history of these monuments and what they represent today.
